The Bible states that Jesus is God’s way of sending spiritual help to humankind. Christians, or followers of Christ, are those who recognize that they are unable to earn a place for themselves in heaven by doing good works. Jesus said, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32). The Bible clearly teaches, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Again in Romans the Bible states, “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one” (3:10). But the Bible also offers hope to sinners, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.“ (Romans 6:23).
How serious is sin? Why is it such a big deal to God?
