Repent
The word “repent” means “to be sorry enough to change direction or to go the opposite way.” God wants you to change your desires from pleasing yourself to pleasing Him. You should see your sin as something that grieves God, and let go of it. Like faith, repentance requires 100% devotion to Jesus and 100% rejection of the sin in your life.
Repentance does not mean that you will never commit another sin again. However, that does mean that you will have a new attitude in your heart, one that hates doing wrong. Just as sin grieves God, it should grieve you also. The Bible says that God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Jesus’ message as He preached to the people of His day was “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).
